In your timeline
Stays on the clip.
An OFX node in Resolve attaches to the clip directly. A UXP panel in Premiere duplicates the clip onto a new track and composites there. Either way, the result stays in your timeline — no exports, no relinking.
Any matte
Reads what you already keyed.
Power Window. Magic Mask. Ultra Key. Track Matte Key. Whatever isolates your subject, Backplate composites under it.
Token pricing

Questions
Frequently asked.
What is Backplate?
A native plugin for DaVinci Resolve Studio and Adobe Premiere Pro that replaces the background of a clip using AI. Generated background composites under the matte you've already keyed — Power Window, Magic Mask, Ultra Key, or Track Matte Key — without leaving your timeline.
Which video editors does Backplate work in?
DaVinci Resolve Studio 18 and later, and Adobe Premiere Pro 26.0 and later. macOS only at this time; Windows coming soon.
Do I need the paid version of DaVinci Resolve?
Yes. Backplate is a third-party OpenFX plugin and free DaVinci Resolve does not load third-party OFX. Resolve Studio is required.
How is Backplate priced?
Token packs, no subscription. Starter CHF 9 / 50 tokens, Pro CHF 49 / 300, Studio CHF 179 / 1250. One generation at 1080p and below costs 1 token; above 1080p costs 2. Ten free tokens on signup, no card required.
Do tokens expire?
No. Tokens never expire. Re-rendering a frame Backplate already generated costs zero — every result is cached locally.
What happens if a generation fails?
Failed generations automatically refund the consumed token to your balance. A token is deducted only on a successful result.
Are my video frames used to train AI models?
No. Backplate uses Google's paid Gemini API; under Google's published terms, paid Gemini API inputs and outputs are not used for model training. Backplate also does not retain frames or prompts after the request completes. See the privacy policy.
Can I get a refund?
Unused tokens are refundable within 14 days of purchase. Used tokens are not refundable. Email billing@backplate.ai.
